I walked down to the pedestrian bridge crossing the Roanoke River and couldn't see the heavy equipment around the bend. (Construction would be looking the other way up the river. This is looking down river.)

This back towards Rivers Edge.

However one new addition caught my eye.
So I drove over The Jefferson Street Bridge and immediately parked.
This is looking across the old Victory Stadium Space toward the river and the pedestrian bridge.

Something seems new...

For a moment I thought 'Roanoke Amphitheater?'... but even I know we aren't that ignorant. Corp of Engineers working on the Roanoke River Flood Protection Plan...
Yes!
A large 'object' standing where Victory Stadium once resided gives dimension to the size of what we lost and perhaps a clue as to what we would possibly gain.
Esthetically of course.

Good post and pictures, I saw all of the dirt moving around the River also and figured it was something to do with flood reduction.
Do you know much about when/if/how they intend to connect the Roanoke River Greenway from where it ends at RMH, to where it begins again around the corner to the left just across the street from the parking garage?
I believe that because of the size of the side walk and street between the parking garage and the Hospital the Greenway has to go through this public space. According to The Master Plan this bottleneck is inevitable. There is really no way to connect both free flowing sides of the Greenway without going through this point.
But hey... it makes a nice rest stop in case you need to collapse:)
